Cisco Telepresence

Have you seen the television commercial for Cisco Telepresence? It's quite an ingenious video conferencing system. The setting appears to be a humanitarian relief effort with a man communicating with his family remotely. I find it odd that their marketing department would chose such a setting to showcase a six figure luxury. For those of you who don't know, the system starts in the range of $300K.

It's a bit pretentious to consider that a humanitarian relief effort would go to the extreme for a communications system. They could easily provide this service by spending $1,000 for a good laptop, $50 for a webcam and $150 for a cellular wireless card leaving the remaining $298K for the suffering people.

I sent them an email pointing this out. The reply was that they are working with a partner to deliver a lower cost alternative.
